Anne Dudley Scoring ITV’s ‘Breathless’

breathlessAnne Dudley is composing the score for the upcoming medical drama Breathless. The series is co-created and written by Paul Unwin (Shameless) and stars Jack Davenport, Iain Glen, Zoe Boyle and Natasha Little. The show is set in 1960s London and follow a group of doctors and nurses working in a hospital at a time when abortion was still illegal, the contraceptive pill only available to married women and moral codes were shifting. Unwin has also directed the first two episodes of the six-part drama and is executive producing the Masterpiece and ITV Studios production with Rebecca Eaton (Downton Abbey, Sherlock) and Kate Bartlett. Breathless is set to premiere in the UK on October 9 on ITV. No word yet on a domestic release.


David Arnold to Score ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ TV Series

david-arnold.jpgDavid Arnold has been tapped to score the upcoming ITV series Jekyll & Hyde. The action adventure is created by Charlie Higson and stars Tom Bateman, Richard E. Grant, Natalie Gumed, Stephanie Hyam, Donald Sumpter, Amit Shah, Phil McKee, Christian McKay and Ruby Bentall. The 10-part series inspired by The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson is set in 1930s London and centers on Robert Jekyll, the grandson of the original doctor, and will follow his quest to discover his real identity and the true nature of his family’s cursed history. Colin Teague (Being Human, Sinbad) is directing the show. Higson is also executive producing the project with Francis Hopkinson (Wallander, Colditz) and Foz Allan (Robin Hood). Jekyll & Hyde is currently shooting in London and is expected to premiere in late 2015 or early 2016 on ITV.

Arnold also continues to score BBC’s Sherlock with Michael Price. The 10th episode of the series is set to premiere this Christmas in the UK.

Michael Price Scoring ITV’s ‘Unforgotten’

The six-part drama is created by Chris Lang (UndeniableThe Tunnel) and stars Nicola Walker, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Trevor Eve, Bernard Hill, Ruth Sheen and Tom Courtenay. The show centers on a 39-year-old murder case that is re-opened when the bones of a young man are found beneath the footings of a demolished house. Lang is also executive producing the Mainstreet Pictures production with Sally Haynes & Laura Mackie (An Englisgman in New York). Unforgotten is expected to premiere later this year on in early 2016 in the UK on ITV.

Price is also co-scoring ITV’s Jekyll & Hyde with David Arnold and also has a new Sherlock episode coming up, which will be premiering this holiday season. The composer has also scored the feature comedy Just Jim starring Emile Hirsch, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and will be released in the UK on September 25.

ITV’s ‘The Frankenstein Chronicles’ to Feature Music by Harry Escott & Roger Goula

harry-escottHarry Escott and Roger Goula are composing the music for ITV’s upcoming drama series The Frankenstein Chronicles. The show is created by Benjamin Ross (RKO 281, The Young Poisoner’s Handbook) & Barry Langford and stars Sean Bean, Anna Maxwell Martin, Charlie Creed-Miles, Ed Stoppard, Elliot Cowan, Hugh O’Conor, Joe Tucker, Kate Dickie, Lalor Roddy, Patrick Fitzsymons and Richie Campbell. The six-part series follows an inspector who investigates a series of crimes in 19th Century London, which may have been committed by a scientist intent on re-animating the dead. Tracey Scoffield (The Special Relationship, Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight) and Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones, Rome) are executive producing the Rainmark Films production. No premiere date has been announced yet for The Frankenstein Chronicles.

As previously reported, Escott whose previous scoring credits include the features Shame, Hard Candy and A Mighty Heart and also has the BBC series River starring Stellan Skarsgård coming up. Goula has previously composed the music for such films as the documentary Next Goal Wins and Tiger House.

The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 6, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Unforgotten is created by Chris Lang and stars Nicola Walker, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Trevor Eve, Bernard Hill, Ruth Sheen and Tom Courtenay. Rob Lane to Score ITV’s ‘Beowulf’

The fantasy drama is created by James Dormer (Strike Back) and stars Kieran Bew in the title role, alongside William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, Ed Speleers and David Ajala. The show tells the story of Beowulf, a troubled warrior who experiences love and loss yet shares a deep binding comradery with his fellow kinsmen. Tim Haines (PrimevalWalking with Dinosaurs) and Katie Newman (Primeval: New World) are executive producing the ITV Studios production with Dormer. Lane’s previous scoring credits include TV projects such as LongfordMerlinJohn Adams and Atlantis, as well as features including The Damned UnitedBeowulf will premiere in early 2016 on ITV. Maurizio Malagnini Scoring ITV’s ‘Peter & Wendy’

maurizio-malagniniThis week, Maurizio Malagnini has recorded his score for the upcoming ITV movie Peter & Wendy. The film stars Zac Sutcliffe and Hazel Doupe in the title roles, alongside Stanley Tucci as Captain Hook, Laura Fraser as Mrs. Darling and Paloma Faith as Tinker Bell. The Headline Pictures production is based on J.M. Barrie’s classic novel Peter Pan and is directed by Diarmuid Lawrence (Little Dorrit). Adrian Hodges (My Week with MarilynPrimevalThe Musketeers) has written the screenplay and Christian Baute and Stewart Mackinnon (Quartet, The Invisible Woman) are producing the project. Malagnini is best known for his scores for the British TV shows Call the Midwife and The Paradise, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination this year. No premiere date has been announced yet for Peter & Wendy.


‘Thunderbirds Are Go!’ Soundtrack Announced

thunderbirds-are-goSilva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the British animated series Thunderbirds Are Go!. The album features the original music from the show’s first season composed by Ben Foster (Torchwood, Hidden Kingdoms, Scott & Bailey) and Nick Foster (The Cube) and performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The soundtrack will be released overseas on December 11, 2015. Thunderbirds Are Go! based on characters by Gerry & Sylvia Anderson is a remake of the classic 1960s adventure series and features the voices of Rosamund Pike, Thomas Sangster, Rasmus Hardiker, David Menkin, Kayvan Novak and David Graham. The series centers on emergency relief org International Rescue, run by the Tracy family. The show’s first season premiered in the UK earlier this year on ITV and the second season launches on November 7.

Adrian Johnston to Score ITV’s & PBS’‘Churchill’s Secret’

adrian-johnstonAdrian Johnston is reuniting with director Charles Sturridge on the upcoming ITV/PBS movie Churchill’s Secret. The film is adapted by Stewart Harcourt (Treasure Island, Poirot) from Jonathan Smith’s book The Churchill Secret: KBO and stars Michael Gambon as Sir Winston Churchill, Lindsay Duncan as Clementine Churchill, as well as Romola Garai, Matthew Macfayden, Bill Paterson, Daisy Lewis, Tara Fitzgerald, James Wilby and Rachel Stirling. The drama is told from the point of view of Churchill’s nurse Millie Appleyard and follows the British Prime Minister’s battle to recover from a stroke in 1953, as his wife hopes it will force him to retire, and his political friends and foe strategize as to who will succeed him. Hal Voel (Endgame) and David Aukin (Hyde Park on HudsonSirens) are producing the project for Daybreak Pictures, alongside Rebecca Eaton (Downton AbbeySherlock). Johnston (Becoming JaneKinky BootsBrideshead Revisited) and Sturridge have previously collaborated numerous times on such films as ShackletonLassie and The ScapegoatChurchill’s Secret will premiere in the U.S. in 2016 as part of PBS’ Masterpiece series.

‘Mr. Selfridge’ Soundtrack Album Announced

Lorne Balfe to Score ITV’s ‘Marcella’

lorne-balfeLorne Balfe has signed on to score the upcoming ITV original series Marcella. The show is created by Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) & Nicola Larder and stars Anna Friel, Laura Carmichael, Nicholas Pinnock, Ian Puleston-Davies, Nina Sosanya, Ray Panthaki, Jamie Bamber, Sinead Cusack, Patrick Baladi and Harry Lloyd. The drama is set in contemporary London and follows a detective who returns to the Metropolitan Police’s Murder Squad after a 10-year long career break to start a family. Rosenfeldt and Larder are also executive producing the project with Tony Wood. Charles Martin (New Worlds, Skins), Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway ManBroadchurch) and Henrik Georgsson (The Bridge) are directing the 8-part series. Marcella will premiere later this year on ITV.

Balfe’s other recent scoring credits include Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, which is currently playing nationwide. The composer also has scored Michael McDonagh’s War on Everyone, which will premiere next month at the Berlin Film Festival.

ITV’s ‘Maigret’ to Feature Music by Samuel Sim

maigretSamuel Sim is composing the music for the upcoming ITV drama Maigret. The series based on Georges Simenon’s best-selling novels is set in 1950s Paris and stars Rowan Atkinson as the legendary French fictional detective Jules Maigret. Fiona Shaw, Aiden McCardle, Shaun Dingwall, Lucy Cohu, Leo Starr, Rufus Wright, Hugh Simon, David Dawson, Colin Mace and Rebecca Night are co-starring. The drama is written by Stewart Harcourt (Treasure Island, Marple), produced by Jeremy Gwilt (Home Fires) and executive produced by Barnaby Thompson (An Ideal Husband, Dorian Gray, St. Trinians) and Ben Latham-Jones (The D Train) for Ealing Studios, John Simenon & Paul Aggett and Stewart Harcourt. The first two movies in the series, Maigret Sets a Trap and Maigret’s Dead Man, will premiere later this year in the UK on ITV.

Sim whose previous scoring credits include the thriller Awake starring Jessica Alba, the mini-series The Reckoning and ABC’s Combat Hospital is also returning to score the second season of ITV’s Home Fires starring Samantha Bond & Francesca Annis, which is set to premiere later this year. The series airs in the U.S. on PBS.


Ilan Eshkeri Scoring ‘Doctor Thorne’

The drama is written by Julian Fellowes (Downton AbbeyGosford Park) and stars Tom Hollander, Rebecca Front, Ian McShane, Alison Brie, Richard McCabe, Phoebe Nicholls, Gwyneth Keyworth, Kate O’Flynn, Edward Franklin, Stefanie Martini and Harry Richardson. The 3-parter is based on the novel of the same title by Anthony Trollope and revolves around the penniless Mary Thorne, who grows up with her rich aunt and cousins at Greshamsbury Park estate. Fellowes is also executive producing the project with Mark Redhead (Bloody Sunday), Christopher Kelly and Ted Childs (Inspector Lewis). Niall McCormick has directed the series. Eshkeri has previously scored the Fellowes-scripted feature The Young Victoria Doctor Thorne will premiere in the UK on March 6, 2016 on ITV. The Weinstein Company has acquired domestic rights for the mini-series, but no premiere date has been announced yet.

Eshkeri has also the thriller Collide starting Felicity Jones & Nicholas Hoult coming up. The movie, which was originally entitled Autobahn, is set to be released on April 1, 2016 by Open Road Films.

Martin Phipps to Score ITV’s ‘Victoria’

victoriaMartin Phipps is currently scoring the upcoming ITV drama Victoria. The show is created by novelist Daisy Goodwin and stars Jenna Coleman, Rufus Sewell, Alex Jennings, Paul Rhys, Tom Hughes and Peter Firth. The 8-part series follows the early life of Queen Victoria, from her accession to the throne at the age of 18 through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert. Goodwin is also producing the Mammoth Screen production with Dan McCulloch (Endeavour, Indian Summers) and Damien Timmer (Parade’s End, Poldark). Victoria is set to premiere in the UK later this year on ITV and will air in the U.S. in early 2017 on PBS in the time slot that Downton Abbey aired for the last couple of years.

Phipps’ recent scoring credits include the mini-series War & Peace, which premiered earlier this year in the U.S. and last year’s Woman in Gold starring Helen Mirren.

Christian Henson Scoring ITV’s ‘Tutankhamun’

The drama is directed by Peter Webber (The Girl with the Pearl Earring, Emperor, Hannibal Rising) and stars Max Irons and Sam Neill. The 4-parter tells the story of Howard Carter’s discovery of the tomb of one of Ancient Egypt’s forgotten pharaohs, the boy-king Tutankhamun. Guy Burt (Jekyll and Hyde, The Bletchley Circle, The Borgias) has written the scripts for all four parts. Francis Hopkinson (Home Fires,) and Catherine Oldfield (Foyle’s War) are executive producing the ITV Studios production and Simon Lewis (The C Word, The Paradise) is producing the project. Tutankhamun is expected to premiere later this year.

Henson also has Jason Connery’s feature Tommy’s Honor starring Peter Mullan coming up.

‘The Durells’ Theme Song Released

The theme is now available to download as a single on Amazon. The Durrells is created by Simon Nye and stars Keeley Hawes, Josh O’Connor, Callum Woodhouse, Daisy Waterstone and Milo Parker. The drama based on Gerald Durrell’s trilogy of memoirs tell the story of Louisa Durrell who makes a radical change and uproots her four unruly children from Bournemouth, England to start a new life in Corfu in the 1930s. The show premiered earlier this year in the UK on ITV and will return for a second season next year. No word yet on a domestic premiere date.
